Anderson Silva lets it all out on UFC 148 Conference Call
The bulk of the trash talking emanating from the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen rivalry has long been dominated by the challenger. That was until the champion let it all and went off at today’s UFC 148 conference call.
The UFC middleweight champion has been hearing it from “The American Gansta” Chael Sonnen for years but had always let his hands do the talking for him. When “The Spider” Anderson Silva picked up the phone today something was different, all the pent-up frustration and disrespect came out and what was said shocked everyone, including the UFC president.
“7 years in the UFC and I’ve never heard Anderson talk like this before,” tweeted Dana White minutes after the call abruptly ended.
No one had heard Silva talk like that. The usually quiet and polite champion turned the tables and went off. Through his translator and manager Ed Soares, Silva opened with a combo at his opponents past.
“First of all, Chael is a criminal; He’s been convicted of crimes. He doesn’t deserve to be inside the octagon. And when the time comes and the time is right, I’m going to break his face and break every one of his teeth in his mouth.”
But Silva was just starting…..
“I’m going to beat Chael like he’s never been beaten before. The joke is over. There’s no more talking. I know he’s on the line listening, and the game is over. I’m going to beat his ass out of the UFC. He’s never going to want to fight again after I’m done with him.”
The quick-witted Sonnen was also on the line, but could only muster up this to say about Silva. “Tell him I’ve got two words for him: Medium. Rare,” Sonnen said, referring to an interview in which he said he wanted Silva’s wife to make him a steak.
Just when it was starting to get good, it was over.
Anderson Silva’s connection dropped and moments later Sonnen was also gone. But before he left the call he of course needed to get the final dig, calling the champion an “amateur” before hanging up.
Silva and Sonnen will meet on July 7th in the main event UFC 148 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Coinciding with the UFC fan expo White believes the card will generate pay-per-view numbers that rival UFC 100, which garnered a reported 1.6 million PPV buys.
The actions of Anderson Silva today can only help that cause.
