Joe Lauzon ties Anderson Silva with two UFC on FOX 4 Fight Night Bonuses
Most of the UFC on FOX 4 talk surrounded the two light heavyweight bouts headlining the card but when it was all said and done, Joe Lauzon stole the show as well as two fight night bonuses. That isn’t anything new though because when you put Joe Lauzon on a fight card you can almost guarantee that he is going to get a UFC fight night bonus.
Lauzon took on Jamie Varner in the second bout of the UFC on FOX 4 main card and the two had a tough act to follow. Mike Swick opened the FOX telecast by returning to the Octagon after a long absence and knocking out of DaMarques Johnson in the second round. Swick knockout off the ring rust in round one and took Johnson down early in the second round before dropping the hammer to earn knockout of the night.
Not to be outdone was Lauzon and Varner though as the two put on a fight of the night performance with their back and forth bout. Varner took the fight on short notice and might have gassed a little but that didn’t stop him from taking the first two rounds on two of the three judges’ score cards. In round three Varner took Lauzon down but ended up in a triangle choke attempt from Lauzon. With four submission of the night performance heading into the UFC on FOX 4 fight, Lauzon locked on the choke and collected his fifth submission of the night bonus. Varner might have lost but his performance, along with Lauzon earns them the fight of the night bonus.
The two bonuses at UFC on FOX 4 now gives Lauzon nine overall to tie him with the UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who earned his ninth bonus at UFC 148.
