UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot Bold Predictions

Everyone loves Friday’s because it’s the end of the work week but add a solid free UFC on FX 5 fight card to the mix and its darn near perfect.  This will be the third weekend in a row with a UFC card and after last week’s Fuel TV card, its back to back free cards. Like last week, UFC on FX 5 will be headlined by two heavyweights trying to climb up the ladder towards Junior Dos Santos.

Undefeated Travis Browne headlines his first UFC card as he takes on former Strikeforce heavyweight Antonio Silva. Browne (13-0-1) is coming off a win against another former Strikeforce heavyweight in Chad Griggs at UFC 145 but is facing possibly his toughest test to date. Silva (16-4) has had a tough row to hoe in his last three bouts, taking on Fedor Emelianenko, Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez. If their stare down at today’s weigh-ins are an indication of the type of fight fans will see tomorrow, expect fireworks.

The UFC on FX 5 co-main event between welterweight Jake Ellenberger and Jay Hieron was originally scheduled for last month’s UFC 151 but was moved to this card following its cancellation. It’s been a long time since Hieron has stepped into the Octagon and things won’t be easy to secure his first UFC win. Ellenberger is coming off a devastating loss to Martin Kampmann and can ill afford to drop two in a row.

Rounding out the UFC on FX 5 main card will be a flyweight bout between John Dodson and Jussier Formiga and a welterweight bout between Josh Neer and Justin Edwards. The winner of the Dodson and Formiga fight will likely become the next opponent for the newly crowned flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson.
