Bellator 78 Complete Results
The Bellator welterweight tournament has reached the finals after tonight’s semifinal bouts at Bellator 78. Unfortunately both tournament bouts ended with questionable decisions from the referee but in the end it was Lyman Good and Andrey Koreshkov advancing to the season seven tournament final.
The night opened with six undercard bouts that streamed live on Spike.com leading to the main card that was opened by two exciting featured bouts.
Brian Rogers vs. Dominique Steele:
Two men always set to explode in the cage, Rogers and Steel came out swinging hard in the opening seconds of the fight, with Steele being wobbled badly a time or two right away. Rogers showed a bit of uncharacteristic composure as he set back and waiting for Steele to engage, but that proved to be more harmful than anything as Steele began finding his range in the latter half of the round.
The second round saw Rogers dominating the pocket with heavy punches and knees, while Steele attempted to find a way inside on the larger man. With damage starting to pile up on the face of Steele, he began becoming more aggressive with his entry, yet faced mixed results as he was countered just as often as his attacks made it through.
The third round saw more of the same, but a massive barrage by Rogers sent Steele’s mouthpiece flying and blood running from the younger fighters face. With the win secure for Rogers and Steele too hurt and flustered to make a go of it, we see the end come via a clear decision for Rogers. A valiant effort for Steele, but he simply didn’t have the tools to get it done tonight.

Daniel Straus vs. Alvin Robinson:
Our bout started with a fast and fearless takedown by Straus that saw him battling with the BJJ black belt on the mat. While conventional thinking would say that Straus would regret this move, he flowed through positions and dominated top positioning with relative ease. While Robinson threatened with submissions from multiple angles, Straus moved out of danger with patience and ended the round having secured a strong attempt at a guillotine on Robinson, winning him the round.
Our second round saw more aggression from Straus as he worked towards breaking Robinson down with sheer strength and pacing. While Robinson once again threatened with thumping punches or submissions from bottom, Straus proved to be too physical for the Colorado native, securing an RNC in the closing seconds of the round.

Andrey Koreshkov vs. Marius Zaromskis:
A fight that simply screamed “KO”, Koreshkov and Zaromskis aimed to please. Zaromskis worked towards the inside with his methodical hunched stance while Koreshkov was the opposite as he was actively worked from the outside. Giving ground and pumping punches, Koreshkov cut a beautiful angle and landed a left hook on Zaromskis that saw him stagger to the mat. A long and entirely unnecessary string of punches finished Zaromskis and sent his hype train rolling along into the finals of the Welterweight tournament.

Michail Tsarev vs. Lyman Good:
The final Welterweight bout of the season featured the former Welterweight Champion Lyman Good taking on Russian grappler Michail Tsarev. Good came out hard and made the surprising move to immediately take the submission specialist to the mat, but Good’s incredible strength shut Tsarev down for the entire round. A late sweep and submission attempt by Tsarev was all the offense he could manage, losing the round to the American fighter.
The second round was much more of what you’d expect from Good as he threw and landed several single punches and kicks. During a punch, Good’s thumb struck Tsarev in the eye, causing him to go full retreat and beg the ref for time. Being as the strike was a fist, rather than an errant finger though, the fight continued as Good battered the covering Tsarev, forcing a TKO and sending Good into the Welterweight finals.

265 lbs.: Jason Butcher defeated Shaun Asher by 1st rd. Submission (Guillotine)
