Typically The Ultimate Fighter Finales are reserved for the season’s final match, along with many of the fighters coming off the reality show. For next months The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale though this does not seem to be the case. Obviously the fight to determine the season’s winner will appear on the fight but things don’t look good for the other 14 fighters.
Yesterday the UFC announced that lightweights Jamie Varner and Melvin Guillard would square off in the finale scheduled to take place on December 15th from the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The added bout now gives the card 11 announced fights, 12 if you include the TUF 16 welterweight final yet to be revealed.
In comparison, last season’s Ultimate Fighter: Live Finale only had 10 fights on the card but six of them (including the final) featured fighters from the house. Plus three of the four fighters that didn’t appear at the finale have or will be making their UFC debut before the year ends. The TUF 14 finale saw every fighter get a spot on the finale with the exception of Akira Corassani who was injured but made his UFC debut this past September.
So the question is where does this leave the rest of the TUF 16 fighters?
It would seem the UFC is bucking the trend at The Ultimate fighter 16 Finale and unless you’re one of the finalists the only way the other 14 fighters will be inside the Joint on December 15th is if they bought a ticket.
The welterweight division is also one of the UFC‘s deeper weight classes and with the fights thus far on The Ultimate Fighter leaving something to be desired, it could just be as simple as supply and demand, or lack there of.
On the Bright side, if the UFC does end up adding a fight or two with fighters from this season to next month’s Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale, fans will defiantly be getting their money’s worth.
