Cat Zingano Wants Miesha Tate, Then Ronda Rousey
With women’s MMA set to make its Octagon debut next month, it’s no surprise that fighters have their sights set on the newly crowned bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey. Cat Zingano on the other hand is taking a slightly different approach on her path to the champ. Zingano wants the former Strikeforce bantamweight champion Miesha Tate who lost her title to Rousey.
Cat Zingano is coming off a win against Raquel Pennington at Invicta FC 3 that brought her professional record to 7-0. The Broomfield, Colorado fighter called out Tate in a recent interview but told MMAValor there was no bad blood between her and Tate just that, “Miesha is one of the best and in my opinion she’s the most direct path to Ronda Rousey.”
“I just want to fight the best girls in the world and right now the best girls are going to be in the UFC. I hope Miesha wants to do the same. Fighters have ducked me my whole career, I’m hoping girls on the elite stage will step up, starting with Miesha Tate.”
Cat Zingano has yet to hear anything from the Miesha Tate camp but her manager has been in conversation with UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby and they hope to have a fight booked by April. Tate though recently signed with MMA super agent Malki Kawa and First round management so maybe that response to Zingano is on its way. When asked though if the Tate fight were to not happen, Zingano said “I’ll fight whoever Sean Shelby and the people at the UFC put in front of me. But this is the fight I want; this is the fight the fans want to see. Sean let’s make it happen.”
Now that’s not to say that Zingano doesn’t want the champ, but Rousey already has a fight lined up and Tate does not. Zingano is very confident in her skills though and understands that defeating a fighter like Miesha Tate would likely earn her a title shot. A title shot that Zingano firmly believes she would win, “Ronda is great for the sport, but I pose a lot of problems for Ronda. I’m elite at every aspect of the game, Wrestling, Strike and BJJ,” she explained.
As of right now the UFC has just the one Women’s bout scheduled, but the promotion has a long list of talented fighters, including Cat Zingano that hope to be in their second bout.
