Cain Velasquez UFC HeavyweightWhen you think of the Memorial Day Holiday weekend the UFC heavyweight division probably isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. That might soon be changing for MMA fans when UFC 160 takes place this holiday weekend in Las Vegas Nevada.

Last year’s Memorial Day weekend event was UFC 146 and it featured an all heavyweight main card for the very first time in the promotions history. Headlining the card was Junior Dos Santos, making the first defense of his UFC heavyweight title against the former champion Frank Mir. The co-main event that night featured the man Dos Santos defeated to become champion, Cain Velasquez. He welcomed Antonio “bigfoot” Silva into the UFC with a beating that resulted in a first round TKO victory.

Like last year, UFC 160 will take place from the MGM grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada and be headlined by the heavyweights. Not any heavyweights but three of the four fighters that headlined UFC 146, including a rematch no one saw coming.

Headlining UFC 160 will be a rematch of the UFC 146 co-main event as the newly crowned heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will look for a repeat performance against Antonio Silva. Silva is coming off a knockout win earlier this month against Alistair Overeem that vaulted him into this title shot. Velasquez will be making his first title defense since regaining the belt at UFC 155 with a unanimous decision victory over Dos Santos.

Speaking of the former champ Junior Dos Santos, he’ll be in the night’s co-main event spot against Alistair Overeem. The two were originally scheduled to fight at UFC 146 until Overeem failed a drug rest and was suspended for nine months by the NSAC. Despite both fighters coming off recent losses, this fight is one the fans have wanted to see for over a year and none of that will matter.

UFC 160 goes down on May 25th and will probably not be filled entirely with heavyweights on the main card but once again the UFC will fill the top two spots on the card this Memorial Day weekend with heavyweights.
