Latest MMA Valor Fighter Rankings for May 2013

With Bellator still on summer vacation the UFC filled the month of April with four fight cards featuring nine fighters that appeared on last months MMA Valor Fighter Rankings. Two of those nine were champions who successfully defeated their titles and five of the other seven also walked away with victories this past month.

The unfortunate two that lost last month were lightweight Gilbert Melendez and heavyweight Frank Mir. Both former champions were facing fellow top ranked fighters on the UFC on FOX card and lost via decision. Melendez faced UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson and came very close to dethroning the champ and despite the loss he remains as the #2 ranked 155 pound fighter this month. Mir faced Strikeforce Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier on the same UFC on FOX card. He unanimous decision loss was his second consecutive defeat and dropped him out of the heavyweight top five. Cormier takes his place as the #4 heavyweight and moving into the #5 position is Antonio Silva, who will be facing UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at the end of the month.

On tap for the month of May are two more UFC events with seven currently ranked fighter scheduled to fight. Bellator is still off until their summer series begins on June 19th.
