In-depth results:
160 lbs.: Lewis Long vs. Mark Glover: A fight of two powerful strikers, this one was up in the air on paper, but far from close in the cage. The longer karate stylist in Glover came into this bout with supreme confidence, yet the compact muay thai and boxing of Long was much more than Glover could handle. With a first round that had moments for both men, Long really took over this fight in the second, coming forward consistently and scoring with a massive variety of strikes, and continued his momentum into the third as well. Glover attempted to steal the fight back with a reckless assault and a few desperation takedowns, but he simply couldn’t get the fight back from Long, whom walked with a clear-cut decision win.
Lewis Long wins via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
170 lbs.: Diego Gonzalez vs. Danny Roberts: The classic case of an old lion (in cage years) vs a young lion, as veteran Diego Gonzalez took on hot prospect Danny Roberts. Roberts showed his hand speed early against Gonzalez, but found himself being hustled on the mat by the Swede. While Roberts was able to escape Gonzalez’s mount on two occasions, he still found himself there when he really shouldn’t have. In the second round, Gonzalez got the same mat dominance going, but Roberts escaped from bottom and decided to end the bout before it got out of his hands. Lining up his crushing clinch attacks, Roberts rifled knee after knee into Gonzalez midsection and head, slowly crushing his defense. As Gonzalez hand’s dropped, Roberts backed away and unloaded several murderous punches, putting Gonzalez out on the canvas.
Danny Roberts wins via 2nd Round TKO (knees and punches)
185 lbs. Title Fight: Jesse Taylor vs. John Phillips: Team Quest’s travelling champion, Jesse Taylor, came into Cage Warriors once again to defend his Middleweight strap, taking on power hitter John Phillips. With Phillips reputation as a bruiser, Taylor wasted no time shooting for a takedown and proceeded to pummel Phillips, moving from position to position. The ground and pound didn’t stop until Taylor found a guillotine from half guard, rolled onto his back, and forced the UK fighter to tap in the first round.
Jesse Taylor wins via 1st Round Submission (guillotine)
