Matt Brown Likely to Face Thiago Alves Next
The methodical, workmen-like accent up the UFC welterweight division by Matt Brown will look to continue the next time the brawler steps into the Octagon. According to multiple sources Brown has agreed to face Thiago Alves on August 17th when the UFC returns to Boston.
The event will coincide with the launch of the FOX Sports 1 channel which is replacing Fox’s Speed Channel. Once it’s launched, FOX Sports 1 will be the new home for the UFC and will be available in over 80 million homes.
Matt Brown (17-11), a member of the Ultimate Fighter season 7, was nearly out of the UFC after a 5 fight span in which he lost four of those via second round submission. Since then he has won five consecutive fights, most recently knocking out Jordan Mein at last month’s UFC on FOX 7 card.
Thiago Alves(19-9) has been on the shelf for over a year now after suffering a come from behind submission defeat by Martin Kampmann. The once highly ranked welterweight out of American Top Team has gone just 2-4 over his last six fights, including a unanimous decision loss to welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre back at UFC 100.
The Matt Brown versus Thiago Alves fight is the first to be associated with the FOX Sports 1 card and where it will eventually land on the card is undetermined.
