Scott Holtzman Wins Lightweight title at XFC 24
In the main event of Last Night’s XFC 24: Collision Course, lightweight prospect Scott Holtzman remained undefeated and walked away with the XFC title around his waist.
Holtzman (5-0) faced veteran fighter and former XFC champion John Mahlow for the vacant lightweight championship, once held by Nick Newell. Holtzman was supposed to face Newell tonight but with his contract and looking to bigger fights, Newell choose to vacate the belt and sign with WSOF. Having earned his title shot by defeating Jason Hicks back in February, the XFC honored that win, despite the unfortunate situation.
In the fight, Mahlow (13-14) came out strong and pressed the action for the first half of the opening round. Holtzman though would weathered the early storm and turn the tables as the round came to a close. In the second round the fighter known as “Hot Sauce” brought the heat and took the fight to the ground. Spilling blood all over the canvas and with Holtzman on his back, Makloh could do nothing but cover up until the fight was stopped 2:53 into round two.
It was an impressive performance from Scott Holtzman tonight at XFC 24 but you have to wonder what if. Fans my never see Holtzman vs. Newell but in the end Scott Holtzman got his belt.
XFC 24 took place at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida and will return on September 6th with XFC 25.
