Anthony Perosh Quiets the Brazilian Fans at UFC 163

In the final preliminary bout before the UFC 163 main card, light heavyweight Anthony Perosh stunned the Brazilian crowd with a 14 second knockout of their countryman Vinny Magalhaes.

You could hear a pin drop inside the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as Magalhaes walked into a right hand from Perosh that dropped the world-class BJJ black belt. Magalhaes tried to recover but the Australian sent him back to dream land with a flurry of ground and pound. As Vinny Magalhaes lay on the canvas asking the doctor what just happened, the crowd was left speechless wonder the exact same thing.

The quick finish by Anthony Perosh puts him back in the win column after the roles were reversed in his last bout in which Ryan Jimmo knocked him out in just 7 seconds. Perosh isn’t known as a finisher but tonight’s knockout improved his record to 14-7 (4-2 in the UFC) with all those wins coming by way of a finish. His fifth career knockout is a little bit sweeter as it earned him an extra $50k for the “knockout of the night”.

Magalhaes (10-7, 1NC) has now dropped back to back fights and his 1-4 overall record in the UFC will likely see him receive a pink slip from the UFC for the second time.

In the nights other light heavyweight bout, former champion Lyoto Machida looked as if he’d finally be getting that rematch with Jon Jones with a win over Phil Davis. In yet another crowd silencing moments the judges gave the bout unanimously to Davis flushing any chances Machida has of a title shot down the drain.
