Photo of the Day: Anderson Silva’s Career Potential Ends with a single Kick
No fighter should have their career ended by an injury, especially not the greatest Mixed Martial Artist of all time Anderson Silva. The events that unfolded in the UFC 168 main event were not for the faint of heart as Anderson Silva’s career was possibly ended by a checked leg kick.
Silva was looking to get his middleweight title back from Chris Weidman, who had captured the title earlier this year with a second round knockout of the champ at UFC 162. That was not to be though and talk of Anderson Silva getting the title back now shifts to has Anderson Silva’s career come to end?
Here’s what happened, in the second round Anderson Silva threw a heavy left kick that Chris Weidman checked and sent the challenger to the canvas. Upon further review Weidman check that kick with his knee which snapped the leg of anderson Silva in gruesome fashion. The pictures below are graphic and as I said before are not for the faint of heart.
Anderson Silva was taken out of the Octagon on a stretcher and was rushed to the hospital for immediate surgery. The UFC issued a statement earlier today regarding the successful surgery in which a intramedullary rod was inserted into Silva’s left tibia. The statement also said, ”The broken fibula was stabilized and does not require a separate surgery. Anderson will remain in the hospital for a short while, but no additional surgery is scheduled at this time. Recovery time for such injuries may vary between three and six months.”
It’s hard to believe Anderson Silva will be ack to normal in three to six months but stranger things have happened. Here’s to a speedy recovery by the spider Anderson Silva.
