A record-setting night of decisions had the Jersey crowd more surly than usual, but there was still plenty of quality action across the UFC 169 PPV. Belts were defended, former champions were defeated, and there was plenty of fistic fury to go around.
The weekend is packed with sports but it was tonight’s LFC 29 that gets it all started. Besides the main event, the LFC 29 fight card wasn’t filled with “names” to grab you attention. That didn’t stop the fights from being entertaining though and here is what stood out to me.
We’ve got a hell of a card in Jersey this weekend, with two titles on the line and division-shaping bouts across the board at UFC 169. With Dominick Cruz on the injured list yet again, Barao is given his rightful title, but must defend it against short notice foe Urijah Faber. It’s a different fight than what he expected, but with a win over Faber in their first showdown, it’s up to Faber to find a new way to deal with the current champ. Jose Aldo will also be on the UFC 169 card to defend his strap after a series of opponent changes, taking on Ricardo Lamas in a potent battle.
A few crushing KOs, a hail mary submission and another split decision for Benson Henderson made UFC on FOX 10 painful for some, but a quality show just the same. As always some fighters shined, while others found themselves further away from title contention.
It was a Friday night of home-grown talent at RFA 12, with two belts on the line and the ever-looming UFC contract for those who showed their mettle in the cage.
Some free MMA on the weekend is never a bad thing, and UFC on FOX 10 isn’t fooling around with top talent and great match-making. Our main event is a bit of a dream match between title former title holders, as Benson Henderson looks to rebound, taking on the surging Josh Thomson
The official feeder farm to the UFC, RFA is bringing two title fights at Friday’s RFA 12. This will either kickstart the careers for the winner, and shatter the dreams for the loser. Let’s take a look at how this all plays out.
Despite several injuries and set-backs to the WSOF 8 card, the final product was competitive in spots and brutally one-sided in others, making for a fun night all around. Tonight’s WSOF 8 was also a historic moment for the relatively new MMA promotion as they handed out their first two championship belts.
