It was a well-hyped fight, but one that played out perhaps even more one-sided than imagined. The always vocal Chael Sonnen had talked his way into a title shot at 205 lbs, yet champion Jon “Bones” Jones wasn’t impressed by the verbal acrobatics, and certainly wasn’t impressed by Sonnen’s skills. Landing shots in the clinch and easily winning the wrestling battle, Jones broke a toe, but absolutely dispatched his opponent with little danger and maximum damage.

The second trip to Stockholm, Sweden for the UFC had a dark cloud hanging above it due the late change in the main event, but Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 9 did have several bright spots. The fight card saw several impressive performances inside the Octagon, including a 19 second knockout as well as a few successful promotional debuts.

The last few days have been spent figuring out figuring out who would be in this Saturday’s UFC on FUEL TV 9 main event. A cut to the face of the hometown fighter Alexander Gustafsson forced a very late opponent change for Gegard Mousasi. Instead of a five round main event against a top five light heavyweight in Gustafsson, Mousasi now faces the unknown Llir Latifi in a three round bout.

Is Alexander Gustafsson fighting this Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV 9 or is he not, that seems to be the burning question right now. The Swede is schedule to face Gegard Mousasi in Stockholm, Sweden as the UFC on FUEL TV 9 main event but reports have been swirling the bout is in jeopardy due to a cut suffered by Gustafsson.

It’s always nice to see a big promotion test the Northern European waters, and with all the talent pouring out of the tundra and fjords, it’s no wonder UFC on FUEL TV 9 is stacked. Our main event features none other than Sweden’s fighting pride, Alexander Gustafsson, as he’ll look to take one step closer to a title shot. His opponent is the often underestimated and always dangerous Gegard Mousasi, who comes into this fight as one of the last Strikeforce transplants, and a former title holder in that promotion.

Despite the friction between his father and the UFC, former Strikeforce lightweight Ryan Couture will make his Octagon debut on the April 6th UFC on FUEL TV 9 card. The fight card is set to take place at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden where Couture will be taking on The Ultimate fighter season 9 winner Ross Pearson.
