The WEC 53 weigh-ins has been completed and the fighters are rehydrating and waiting to fight tomorrow (December 16) at the jobing.com arena in Glendale, AZ. If you haven’t already heard the WEC is merging with the UFC on January 1st 2011 and WEC 53 is the final event for the promotion.
Jamie Varner announced this week that he will be training at AKA this week during the day and at Combat fitness with Gil Castillo at night.
Jamie Varner (16-4-1) announced yesterday via his Facebook page that he would most likely be fighting in his hometown of Arizona in December at the WEC 53. Varner is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Donald Cerrone at WEC 51 in which he took a pretty hard beating. Right after the fight Varner lobbied that even though he lost he’d like to fight in front of his hometown fans.
WEC 51 offered fight fans an exciting night of fights with fight of the night honors going to Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone for their three round war. In the months leading up to the fight, Jamie Varner and Donald Cerrone made it very clear that they do not like each other and that they want to hurt each other.
Tonight was another great night of fights from the WEC in Broomfield, Colorado tonight. From top to bottom the fights were action packed and darn right enjoyable to watch. The night was highlighted with a featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Manny Gamburyan that put a nice exclamation on the night.
On Thursday, September 30th, the WEC invades the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado for their first ever event held in the state.
