For those keeping score at home you can caulk up two more in the win column for the injury bug as he’s claimed two more victims to continue his dominance in the UFC. The latest fighters to get tapped out by the injury bug are Rory MacDonald and Josh Koscheck, leaving BJ Penn and Jake Ellenberger without opponents.
The welterweight clash between the quick rising Rory MacDonald and the UFC legend BJ Penn will not be happening at next month’s UFC 152 in Toronto, Canada. As last night’s UFC on FOX 4 main event was getting set to start, UFC President Dana White learned that MacDonald had suffered a major cut above his right eye during training and would not be medically cleared to fight on September 22nd.
If everything had gone to plan, the UFC would have GSP on the mend, Carlos Condit and Jake Ellenberger meeting for the interim title and a pecking order of two or three fighters behind them. However, some well-placed knees by Martin Kampmann changed all of that. Now the UFC has an interesting issue, too many qualified contenders. Not the worst problem to have, unless you’re a fighter on the list waiting your turn.
Jon Jones and Rashad Evans finally got a chance to settle their score at UFC 145. It seemed however that neither man was dead set on exacting their revenge. In the co main event, Rory MacDonald continued to show why he is a future champion in the UFC.
UFC 145 is the first UFC Pay-Per-View in nearly two months and takes place from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Headlining the night is the highly anticipated light heavyweight title fight between former team mates Jon Jones and Rashad Evans. There is no love lost between these two and the war of words is nearly over.
He may be known as “beautiful” but Gloucester, England welterweight fighter Che ‘Beautiful’ Mills returns to the cage at UFC 145 this weekend with MMA fans knowing there is more to this man than just looks. Roll the clock back to November 5th 2011 and UFC 138 where Mills took on and destroyed San Diego brawler Chris Cope in just under 40 seconds of the first round of his UFC debut. Talking ahead of that fight, Mills admitted he was “living his dream” and with only four defeats out of nineteen bouts, you wouldn’t bet against the British battler this weekend.
