Today the Nevada State Athletic Commission released the UFC 148 salaries as well as handing down their medical suspensions to half of the fight card. The 11 bout fight card had a total reported salary of $1.438 million and rumored gate of a new UFC record $7 million for shows in the United States.
The UFC 148 weigh-ins were one of, if not the most intense weigh-ins the UFC has ever had. Everyone knew the Anderson Silva / Chael Sonnen stare down was going to be insane but who knew that so many other stare downs would bring an intensity level so think you needed to cut it with a chain saw.
What is a Rivalry? What defines a Rival? According to Google its “A person competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity”. On July 7th at UFC 148, Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva will meet for the 2nd time for the 185 pound title. You can guarantee that both men will be competing for superiority and the same objective; to walk out champion. But when you look at the definition of what a ‘Rival’ is, can you truly consider it a Rivalry?
