Leonard Garcia defeats Nam Phan by Robbery

When you have Joe Rogan calling out the judges live on Spike TV during the event, you know things are bad. In the first televised fight on the Ultimate Fighter season 12 finale Nam Phan took on mega brawler Leonard Garcia.
The fight lived up to the hype and was a very entertaining 15 minute slugfest, but when is Garcia not in a slugfest. The “said” Robbery occurred when the judges handed in their scorecards, ruling in favor of Leonard Garcia via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28). Everyone in attendance including Garcia was flooded when the decision was read.
Round One was really the only round that was in question as Garcia was fresh and the aggressor but Phan was game and held his own. The round could have gone either way and it was the best looking round by Garcia.
Round Two was easily won by Phan who dropped Garcia with a punch and was close to finishing the fight by ground and pound and submission. There is now way anyone, including a judge should have given that round to anyone but Phan.
In Round Three Phan was the much fresher fighter, Garcia was completely gassed out and looked to be in slow motion. For every combination thrown by Phan, all Garcia could muster up was a wide, lazy, inaccurate haymaker. Closer the round two but Phan controlled round, was the more aggressive man and landed the better shots. Standing in one spot and throwing one punch at a time in slow motion doesn’t win you a round, Phan won this round.
At best Phan won the fight 30-27 and at worse he still won the fight 29-28, but two judges were apparently watching a different fight and gave the third round to Garcia.
The split decision is nothing new for Garcia who now has four of them in a row and five of them in the last six fights.
